Sichuan
sichuan map

Historically known as the province of abundance. Surrounded to three sides by mountain areas, to the west the Himalayas, to the north the Qinlin range and to the south the mountainous Yunnan. Sichuan dates back to at least 1500BC and has great historical significance in China. It’s one of the most exciting provinces to visit in China, with its interesting history and rich culture, Han Chinese, Tibetans, Yi, Qiang and Naxi people all residing here in Sichuan.
Sichuan is home to none less than 5 sites on the Unesco world heritage list, Dujiangyan (Mount Qincheng), a series of ingenious dams constructed in 300BC, to irrigate and to prevent the yearly floods that haunted the basin. Huanglong with it’s beautiful pools and waterfalls, Jiuzhaigou with some amazing scenery, the holy Mount Emei and of course the national treasure of China...the Pandas.

Gan Zi
Ganzi Tibetan district is located in the western part of Sichuan. It includes 18 counties. They are Kang Ding, Lu Ding, Dan Ba, Jiu Long, Ya Jiang, Dao Fu, Lu Huo, Gan Zi, Xin Long, De Ge, Bai Yu, Shi Qu, Se Da, Li Tang, Ba Tang, Xiang Cheng, Dao Cheng, De Rong. In total of 153.000 square kilometers and a population of 880000. 78% of which are Tibetans. Gan Zi is more like a Tibet out of Tibet. As you may know the Kangding love song is from here and the most famous horse festival is in one of the counties too. During this horse festival there are over 10000 horses that partake in a horse competition on the Mao Ya grass land for a week in Li-tang. Now, that’s some breath taking entertainment.
In Ganzi there is all kinds of mountaineering, trekking, hiking and rock climbing and you can easily partake in local customs as the locals are very outgoing and most likely will welcome you with open arms. Since Gan Zi is populated by mostly Tibetans it is inheritably rich in Tibetan Buddhist culture.
More than 80% of the peaks in this area are unclimbed, just here waiting for you. If you decide to take one on, you have all levels of difficulty to choose among. If you decide to go trekking you can choose between a few days to a life time of walking. We have plenty of routes that you’ll love. You can choose between being completely isolated in among 5000+ mountains or sharing your experience with locals, sharing their food, their living and their laughter.

Kang Ding
Kang Ding is a Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture located in Western Sichuan Province bordering neighbouring Tibet. It is a small mountain town sitting in a valley at an elevation of 2,617m / 8,586 feet above sea level both rich in Tibetan culture and on the doorstep of a sea of mountains; the highest peak is Gongga Shan which reaches 7,556 m / 24,790 feet. There are a hundreds of peaks between 5,000-7,000m few which have been summated but most of them have been waiting far too long.
The best months for climbing are June, July, August and September.
The average low temperature is - 6 degrees Celsius in January and the average high is 20 degrees Celsius reached in July.

Aba Zhou (Aba State)
The Tibetan district Aba is located in the north-western part of Sichuan province. it includes 13 counties, Wen Chuan, Li Xian, Mao Xian, Jin Chuan, Xiao Jin, Ma Er Kang, Aba, Ruo Er Gai, Hong Yuan, Rang Tang, Song Pan, Jiu Zhai Gou, Hei Shui. In total of 83426 square kilometers and 790000 of population.
The mountains makes Aba a great place for mountaineering and trekking. A few examples are Four girls mountain, Jiu Zhai Gou and Huang Long. Those are just a few of many places in Aba Zhou.

Jiu Zhai Gou/Huang Long
Jiu Zhai Gou literally means "the Valley of Nine Villages." It was listed as one of UNESCO's world heritage sites in 1992. Already in 1982 was it made a nature reserve by the Chinese government and opened to tourism in 1984. It is considered by many as the most beautiful place in the world. I don't agree that it is the most beautiful, but definitely ranks high on the list. Jiu Zhai Valley is simply put gorgeous, famous for it's water and primevel forests. Huang Long (lit Yellow Dragon) and Jiu Zhai Valley are connected a few hours drive away from one another. Huang Long is also famous for its water and definitely worth a visit. But, there is always but, they are both very popular tourist destinations and see over a million tourists each year. So, a visit during high season would be very crowded.

Si Gu Niang Shan (Four girls mountain)
A scenic areas, sometimes called the “oriental alps”, the four girls are four peaks that list at 5,355m for the oldest, Da Feng, 5,454m (Er Feng), 5,664m (San Feng) and the youngest, Yao Feng, at 6,250 metres.
Four girls is a beautiful area with an abundance of gorgeous scenery and unclimbed peaks. Suitable all year round, with excellent ice-climbing during the winter and magnificent “big wall” all year round. This is where Mike Fowler won his Golden Piton.
Rilong, the small town which we use as a base when there, is situated at the entrance to Changping valley, altitude at about 3700m. Chang Ping is where you enter to take on Yao Feng.
In Shuang Qiao valley there are over 120 icefalls. In Shuang Qiao and Chang Ping valley you’ll also find some incredible “big wall” climbing routes, only 10% of them have been climbed.. Four girls could be called a Fairy land for climbers and people who love nature.

Mount Ge Nie
A holy mountain which clocks in at 6,204 metres/20,354 feet high. This massif is mostly hidden in between Li Tang and Ba Tang. Was summated in 1988 by Japanese climbers.

San Ao
San Ao is located in Hei Shui town of Aba Zhou. San, which is number 3 in Chinese, just states the three Ao mountains: Ao-tai-ji(5285M,father of the mountain in Tibetan),Ao-tai-mei(5257M,mother of the mountain) and Ao-tai-na(5200M,The sun of the mountain). In local society these 3 mountains are holy mountains.

On the left there are a few maps of Sichuan, including some tourist maps. There are obviously many more places of interest in Sichuan, if you have any questions regarding a specific area or anything else don't hesitate to write an email and ask.
